Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

At Rawmarsh & Arnold Nursery School Federation, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care.

All staff are trained to be vigilant and responsive to any concerns about a child’s wellbeing. If we have any safeguarding concerns, we are legally required to follow established procedures and may need to share information with appropriate external agencies, including Children’s Social Care.

In most situations, we will aim to discuss any concerns with parents or carers first. However, if we believe a child is at risk, we have a duty to act in the child’s best interests, which may mean seeking advice or making a referral without prior discussion.

We also keep clear and accurate records, including logging any existing injuries and the explanations provided by both adults and children.

Safer Recruitment and Training

We operate a rigorous and robust recruitment process to ensure all adults working with children are suitable to do so. This includes:

• Checking references
• Enhanced DBS (police) checks for all staff, students, governors and volunteers
• Ongoing safeguarding training for all staff and volunteers

Any concerns or allegations about staff are managed in line with guidance from the Rotherham Safeguarding Children Partnership.
